Weippe Prairie to Clearwater River - ID. The route from the prairie to the river was hazardous, and most of the men were weak and sick. The Nez Perce helped them, but some wanted to kill the party and take their weapons. An elderly woman, who was abducted as a child and sold to kindly Canadian traders, had persuaded them not to kill them. Once again, the Corps may have owed their lives to an Indian woman.
